Lot Description: A 19th Century Quilted Silk Child's Cap , the background of cerise, with turquoise silk ribbon applied to create three sections, each being decorated with a rosette of the same colour of silk ribbon. Within each section the silk is hand quilted in turquoise thread, quite simply, in lines forming diamonds which contain circles in yellow thread. A metal thread braid border sits inside the outer turquoise border and the cap is edged all round with a simple cream bobbin lace. The interior consists of three panels of linen, the centre panels being of a slightly heavier weight. All exterior quilting can be seen from inside the cap. Crude cotton ties have been added at a later date. Together with A 19th Century Whitework Bonnet , the fine cotton ruched in panels and piped, the crown panel described as Ayrshire on the antique lace seller's label still attached. (2) Condition Report: . Good. Very slight wear to the turquoise ribbon noted in three areas. The edging lace is grubby. The white bonnet has a mark to the front right edge, which, when magnified, appears to be a name written, and smudged, in ink. ARR: Categories: Fans
