A Bactrian striated marble disc, 2nd Millennium B.C., with a straight groove carved across the diameter to each side, 6.5cm high, 30cm diameter Bactrian 'Idols' originate from North-East Afghanistan. Similar objects have been found on the sites of Tepe-Hissar, Mundigak and Siistan. The marble columns and large discs date from the same period, circa 2000 B.C. and feature the same central groove. They were probably used together in the same ritual context, as objects of worship in what could have been a fertility cult, however some specialists refer to these objects as being weights. They are often found in the same funerary and archaeological context Provenance: A Deceased Estate, Wiltshire Condition report disclaimer
