A brilliant Chinese-yellow silk damask satin petticoat/skirt panel and remains of bodice, possibly the remains of a mantua, first half 18th century. the wide closed front 'skirt', woven with large flowering plants in repeat, lined in ivory wool, the hem edged in yellow cord, with two original pocket slits - the waistband removed, lined in ivory challis; together with a pieced panel with what appear to be rear bodice pleats and fabric joins to create reverse fold-overs pleats, and a piece third panel - possibly part of a train, the 'skirt' or petticoat 109 high by 160cm diam, the 'train' section approx 116 by 100cm (3).
