A Cantonese enamel lantern and cover, 18th century of square section, each side with a pierced border of confronting archaistic dragons alternating with bats, framed a border with pierced roundels and ruyi-head corners alternating with flowers, with a key-fret pattern below the rim, the cover of a pavilion roof form, each side with a pierced decoration of confronting dragons pursuing the flaming pearl, between the domed top with a pierced cloud collar pattern and a wavy plantain apron below, all supported on a ridged base with a foliate shaped apron, decorated with lappet and geometric patterns above peach clusters and floral sprays -- overall 17¾in. (45.1cm.) high.
