A CARAMEL-BROWN AND GREEN ‘BUDDHIST LION & CARPS’ OVERLAY GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE Katalognummer: SN0618-045 Carved opaque caramel-brown and light transparent green high-relief overlay glass with extremely fine incised detail work China 1780-1880 Finely carved through the green overlays with a scene of two playful Buddhist lions on a rocky ground, accompanied by two flying bats, the reverse with two carps on a wavy ground, with a large cloud in the upper left, all against a rich caramel-brown ground. Shape: Compressed oval body with slightly sloping shoulders Hollowing: Standard Mouth, neck and lip: Sprawling neck with slanted lip, deep cylindric mouth, flat top Base: Oval base with raised oval rounded foot rim carved of green overlay Stopper: Coral cabochon with a green platelet, a small pearl on top, and a nicely carved spoon Height of the bottle with stopper: 7.2 cm.
