A CARVED RED LACQUER LOBED 'DRAGON AND PHOENIX' BOWL SIX-CHARACTER CHASED MARK WRITTEN IN MANCHU DATED TO THE 8TH YEAR OF THE REIGN OF QIANLONG, CORRESPONDING TO 1743, AND OF THE PERIOD The exterior is finely carved with a five-clawed dragon chasing a flaming pearl, and a phoenix confronting a lotus blossom, all on a dense ground of scrolling clouds. The interior is covered in black lacquer. The mark is chased within a gilt-metal rectangle in the center of the base. 7 ½ in. (19.1 cm.) diam.
