A Cased Pair Of Exceptional Brescian 32-Bore Flintlock Long Holster Pistols Late 17th CenturyWith tapering two-stage barrels each with turned girdle and longitudinal raised rib along the top to the muzzle, the breech sections each with three matching ribs and stamped 'Lazarino Cominazzo' (Neue Støckel 7262), slender tangs, rounded locks chiselled in relief with scrolling foliage and berries, pans and steels en suite, chiselled cocks each in the form of a foliated dragon and retained by a bolt on the inside, finely figured walnut full stocks each with rounded section behind the rear ramrod-pipe and inset with steel panels (minor losses) finely pierced and engraved with scrolling flowering foliage inhabited by pairs of demi-figures, the panels either side of the fore-stocks (one pistol with minor old damage on one side) each inhabited by a monster, mounts chiselled in relief with scrolling foliage inhabited by monsters and comprising compressed rounded pommels and trigger-guards, the former each with a dragon on both sides and button terminal chiselled as a flower-head, the latter each with pierced and chiselled finial, ramrod-pipes chiselled with foliage en suite, triggers each pierced and chiselled in the round as a seated monkey, original wooden ramrods, the tips each chiselled with a further monkey supporting a wreath on its head, and in fine condition: in their bespoke Parisian mahogany case fitted and lined in green velvet with accessories comprising loading and cleaning rods, and bright steel bullet mould 40 cm. barrels FootnotesFor two other very fine pairs of Brescian flintlock pistols sold in these Rooms and formerly in the Barons Nathaniel and Albert von Rothschild and the D.H.L.
