A CHIPPENDALE CARVED MAHOGANY TALL CASE CLOCK dial signed edward duffield (1720-1801); carving attributed to nicholas bernard and martin jugiez; philadelphia, 1760-1780 The broken arched pediment surmounted by flame-and-urn finials centering an asymmetrical pierced cartouche embellished with a bird in ruffled c-scrolled and foliate-carved surround, above an arched molded frieze over an astragal glazed door opening to a brass engraved dial face with Arabic and Roman chapter rings enclosing a sweep seconds hand and calender day aperature with applied brass urn, bird and tendril spandrels surmounted by a lunar dial, the dial inscribed Duffield Philad. , the dial flanked by fluted colonettes above a waisted case centering a shaped thumbmolded door flanked by fluted quarter columns over a rectangular box base with canted corners centering a rectangular panel with inset rounded corners, on ogee bracket feet with pads, paper label on saddle board printed and inscribed William A.
