A Collection of 1851 Great Exhibition Medals Exhibitor’s Medals, 1851 (6), in bronze, by W. Wyon, similar, edge inscribed (United Kingdom, Class 2, No.60; Class 6, No.162; Class 10, No.276; Class 16, No.196; Mrs H. Crow; Class 16, No.205), all 44mm (BHM 2463; E 1462) [6]. First extremely fine, second fine, others generally very fine or better; third and fourth in original maroon cases of issue (£40-50) Footnote London-related issues. 1st awarded to J.R. Johnson, Bankside, inventor, for calicos and dyes; 2nd awarded to Hopkinson & Cope, New North Street, Finsbury, manufacturers of the Albion printing press; 3rd awarded to F. Clark, Park Side, Knightsbidge, inventor of adjusting spectacles and manufacturer of opera glasses; 4th awarded to Thomas Crow, Maidenhead Court, Cripplegate, designer and manufacturer of patent leather boots; 5th presumably awarded to Thomas Crow’s wife [no other person by the name of Crow is listed in the exhibitor’s index]; 6th awarded to S.B.
