A COLLECTION OF THIRTY-THREE LETTERS, MOSTLY TO VERNON LUSHINGTON Q.C., TO PRE-RAPHAELITES AND OTHER ARTISTS, COMPRISING: William Holman Hunt (7, one incomplete) on preparations for travel ("...I shall nevertheless take a six shooter with me and if necessary draw it...") and his own painting including of his son and a portrait, presumably of Stephen Lushington ("...The good old Doctor has not the virtue of being a patient or steady sitter - he in fact does not sit at all..."); Dante Gabriel Rossetti (4) on painting a portrait of Mrs Lushington, his anxiety about portraiture, and work on a painting - probably Dante's Dream ("...just now I'm a slave to a big picture which blocks up all my studio..."); Edward Burne-Jones (2) ("...my first introduction to Gabriel [Rossetti] was your doing - and big results it bought in my life..."); William Morris on conditions in Iceland; Thomas Woolner (2) praising Stephen Lushington on his death and on the judgment of the Royal Academy; J.E. Millais (2), one admitting "I have had great trouble in deciding upon the likely plant" for the lily of the field for his illustration of the Parables; Lord Leighton (3 and a card); John Ruskin (2), one providing instruction on dress ("..so long as you are careful not to wear .. false stuffs - jewels, &c. you may wear buttons for studs, & tassels instead of laces..."); Alfred Tennyson; Georgina Burne-Jones (4); Jane Morris (2); May Morris; W.M.
