Shaw, Royal Engineers Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 (20740 Corpl., R.E.) unofficial connection to last clasp; 1914-15 Star (52243 Sjt., R.E.); British War and Victory Medals (52243 Sjt., R.E.); Army L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 1st issue (52243 Sjt., R.E.); Imperial Service Medal, G.V.R., 1st issue (Charles Edward Shaw) mounted for display; with Silver War Badge (336046) and ‘South Africa 1900 tin box (empty), medals good very fine (8) £200-250 Footnote Prior to the Great War Charles Edward Shaw served in the Royal Engineers for 16 years and saw service in the Boer War. A Telegraphist in civilian life, he re-enlisted into the Royal Engineers - Army Reserve (Special Reserve) at Chatham on 22 September 1914, aged 44 years, 11 months. He served with the B.E.F., 7-9 July 1915 and 18 November 1915-19 September 1917. He was discharged as being no longer physically fit for war service on 1 March 1918 and awarded the Silver War Badge. With copied Q.S.A. roll extract, m.i.c. and W.W.1 service papers.
