A COLOURED DIAMOND AND DIAMOND RING
A COLOURED DIAMOND AND DIAMOND RING Set with a cluster of vari-cut multi-coloured diamonds, to the pavé-set diamond three-quarter hoop, mounted in 18k white, yellow and rose gold, ring size 5½ Accompanied by five reports dated from 21 March 2006 to 12 August 2008 from the Gemological Institute of America with the following detail: Report Weight Colour Clarity Cut 17470196 1.14 Fancy vivid orange-yellow I2 Brilliant 17470240 1.05 Fancy orangy pink VS2 Marquise 15031285 1.02 Fancy green-yellow VS2 Marquise 17470149 1.00 Fancy intense blue I1 Pear 15031267 0.34 Fancy light blue VVS2 Marquise Also accompanied by a supplemental letter stating that the 1.00 carat pear brilliant cut fancy intense blue diamond described in GIA coloured grading report #17470149 has been determined to be a type IIb diamond. Type IIb diamonds are very rare in nature (from the laboratory's experience, less than one half of one percent) and contain small amounts of boron that can give rise to a blue or gray colouration. An unusual property of type IIb diamonds is that they are semi-conductors and conduct electricity. Historically, the ancient mines of India produced occasional blue diamonds but today the most significant source is limited to the Cullinan (formerly Premier) Mine in South Africa. Among famous gem diamonds, the 70.21 carat Idol's Eye and the 45.52 carat Hope are examples of type IIb
