(25.4cm.) high This series called "a colori" (with colors) or "con macchie" (with spots) was designed in 1950 by Fulvio Bianconi, one of the leading designers for Venini and was presented at the XXV Biennale of Venice. Inspired by the Abstract Expressionist Movement, this series was simple in appearance but technically difficult to create. According to Marc Heirmans, whose most recent book "Art Glass from Murano, 1910-1970", this pattern was created by applying semi-liquid glass on a colorless or amber tinted body which spread very quickly and was hard to control. The resulting design was free-form, non representational and quite progressive even for Venini. The simplicity of design and sober colors did not lend itself to commercial success, however, and very few examples were produced. The series consists of six different shapes, the largest and rarest being the shape of the present model.
