June, 1811 Author: Shaw, Lemuel Place: Boston Publisher: From the Press of John Eliot Date: Description: 24 pp. 9x5¾, marbled paper wrappers, edges untrimmed. First Edition. Lemuel Shaw (1781-1861) was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1830-1860, and father-in-law of Herman Melville, who married his daughter Elizabeth in 1847. This copy with the signature of Society Member and Trustee, Hon. William Phillips presumably the well-known businessman Honourable William "Billy" Phillips (1750-1827) of Boston. Not in Sabin. Rare. Lot Amendments Condition: Wrapper spine rubbed away; first blank leaf creased and with vertical tear; else very good. Item number: 168369
