A FINE AND IMPORTANT BEIJING ENAMEL "EUROPEAN SUBJECT" SNUFF BOTTLE IMPERIAL, PALACE WORKSHOPS, BEIJING, QIANLONG FOUR-CHARACTER MARK IN BLUE ENAMEL AND OF THE PERIOD, 1736-1750 Of flattened form with multi-faceted octagonal profile and with flat lip and flat foot, finely enameled on one main side with a European lady dressed in blue with two pink blossoms tucked into her neckline, an orange shawl flapping in the breeze, the other main side with another European lady dressed in pale greenish-grey with an orange edging and pink shawl, with reddish-pink and orange blossoms pinned in her hair beside a violet headdress, her right hand raised and holding an orange flower, each panel within a circular gilt-metal surround, the sides decorated with a faceted lattice of twenty-three panels variously enameled in puce, green, yellow and blue with flowerheads and scrolling foliage, the neck encircled with a mille fleurs border, gilt-metal stopper 1 21/32 in. (4.2 cm.) high
