With blued two-stage barrel (perhaps slightly reduced in length) retained by two later engraved silver bands, and with silver bead fore-sight and turned and chiselled acanthus girdle, the breech section octagonal changing to polygonal, signed in gold on the top flat, finely inlaid at intervals with engraved foliage and scrollwork heightened with dots, and struck at the rear with the maker's two gold-lined punzónes (Neue Støckel 59, 65) below four gold-lined stylised fleurs-de-lys and a gold-lined cross, brass-lined touch-hole, shaped bright steel tang finely chiselled in low relief with flower-heads, foliage and scrollwork, all on a gilt ground, signed rounded shaped bright steel lock struck with further gold-lined punzón (similar to Neue Støckel 69) and finely chiselled in low relief with foliated scrollwork and a swag of fruit and foliage above a recumbent stag, all against a punched ground, the chiselled relief decoration extending to the cock, pan, steel-spring, and steel, the last with a marine monster and a satyr-mask, later moulded figured walnut three-quarter stock finely carved in relief with symmetrical scrolls and foliage at the barrel tang and in front of the trigger-guard, bright steel mounts comprising chiselled side-nail washers, trigger-guard finely chiselled in relief with grotesque masks and foliage on a punched ground, and engraved and gilt heel-plate with chiselled shell finial, pierced silver escutcheon flanked by lion supporters and with coronet above and satyr-mask beneath, and horn-tipped ramrod, the chiselled decoration of exceptionally fine quality 41½ in. (105.4 cm.) barrel
