ATTRIBUTED TO MAISON MILLET, PARIS, LATE 19TH CENTURY
A FINE FRENCH ORMOLU, PORPHYRY AND LAPIS LAZULI-MOUNTED SATINWOOD, BURR-MAPLE AND MAHOGANY PARQUETRY VITRINE-CABINET-ON-STAND ATTRIBUTED TO MAISON MILLET, PARIS, LATE 19TH CENTURY The upper part with a central arched pediment, the moulded cornice with egg-and-dart and inset with an oval panel cast in high-relief with two cherubs by an altar of love, supported by a cherub on each side, above a glazed panel door, with two shelves on the interior, flanked on each side by a galleried shelf, above a pierced frieze, with a panel door below, centred with a ribbon-tied lapis-lazuli oval medallion hung with laurel, with two porphyry panels, flanked by a Corinthian column on each side and a Corinthian pilaster on the outer edges, the stepped base flanked by a seated winged sphinx on each side, with three concealed drawers, the lower part with a moulded breakfront edge, above a frieze inset with a central drawer, the front with a Bacchic cherub and foliate scroll mount flanked by a lapis-lazuli panelled drawer on each side, fronted by vine-entwined spirally-fluted legs with rectangular panelled uprights to the back, joined by a three-quarter galleried tier with trellis-parquetry, on twin tapering feet 62¼ in. (158 cm.) high; 36 in. (91.5 cm.) wide; 19½ in. (49.5 cm.) deep
