A FINE LOUIS XVI WHITE MARBLE AND ORMOLU ALLEGORICAL MANTEL CLOCK THE CLOCKMAKER'S SIGNATURE ERASED FROM DIAL, THE DIAL BY DUBUISSON Depicting the personification of Knowledge, modelled as two classically draped maidens engaged in study and reclining against a fluted column surmounted by an ormolu putto pointing to a terrestrial globe mantled in clouds and framing the clock, the moulded oval base inset with ormolu frieze cast and chased with putti engaged in scholarly pursuits, the black marble plinth raised on ovoid feet, the white enamel dial with calendar ring enclosing roman chapters, the movement with pinwheel escapement mounted between the plates, thread suspended pendulum, striking the hour and half hour on bell by means of countwheel, c. 1780-- 24in. (61cm.) high
