A FINE & VERY RARE FRENCH 18-BORE SINGLE-TRIGGER OVER-AND-UNDER FOUR-SHOT SUPERIMPOSED-LOAD PERCUSSION SPORTING CARBINE FOR WILD BOAR HUNTING BY LA PAGE, ARQ.ER DU ROI ET DE S.A. LE PRINCE ROYAL, PARIS, CIRCA 1840 With octagonal barrels chiselled in low relief with panels of flowering foliage at the breeches and muzzles, the upper barrel signed and sighted, tang and trigger-plate each chiselled with further flowering foliage inhabited by boar and monster-masks, shaped locks respectively signed 'LE PAGE A PARIS' and 'ARQ.ER DU ROI' and each with two hammers and stepped tail, the plates each chiselled with further flowering foliage inhabited by a Classical figure, the hammers each chiselled en suite, each breech with pierced platinum plug, highly figured walnut butt carved at the grip with scrollwork, iron mounts comprising butt-plate and trigger-guard chiselled en suite, the latter incorporating the crowned monogram 'HL', and associated iron ramrod mounted to left side of the barrels (some corrosion marking to the barrels) 18½in. (47cm.) barrels
