A FINELY CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER CIRCULAR BOX, COVER AND TRAY MING DYNASTY, LATE 14TH/EARLY 15TH CENTURY The domed cover well carved through multiple layers of cinnabar lacquer with a central hexagonal lotus seed pod encircled by a band of interlocking lozenge design, the gently rounded sides of the cover and box deeply carved with stylised lotus petals, the tray similarly carved with the central medallion as a lotus seed pod encircled by eleven petals overlapping a lower register of petals, the reverse carved with a spiral scroll border, the interiors and bases lacquered black, the base of the dish lightly incised with the maker's mark, Zhou Ming zao The tray, 6 1/2 in.
