A French 19th century gilt bronze mounted amaranth, tulipwood, sycamore, marquetry and parquetry bureau plat after the model by Jean-Henri Riesener (1734-1806) The gilt tooled leather inset top with an acanthus cast border, above two opposing leather inset end slides, over a lozenge-inlaid panelled frieze centred by ribbon tied floral tablets, incorporating one central drawer flanked by two short drawers, on square tapering legs terminating in acanthus and lotus-leaf sabots, 140cm wide x 69cm deep x 76cm high, (55in wide x 27in deep x 29 1/2in high) Fußnoten Purchased: Sotheby's, 12 June 2006, Furniture: Antiques for the Modern Home, lot 491. A very similar late 19th century bureau plat, albeit one made by Gervais Durand, sold Christie's, London, 1 November 2001, 19th Century Furniture and Sculpture, lot 207. Both examples follow the exceptional model, dated circa 1780, supplied by Jean-Henri Riesener to Louis XVI for the Chateau de Versailles, where the original table remains to this day.
