A FRENCH 'DIEPPE IVORY' CENTRE TABLE, carved all over with leaves and heraldic devices, the rectangular top with canted angles, inset with an acanthus wreathed oval glazed medallion panel, the blue velvet lined interior with carved busts entitled Ludovigus and Mariae Stvariae , each with a crown above, centred by an armorial with motto Montioye St. Denys flanked by music-making cherubs, a basket of flowers and sea-griffins below, the waved apron applied with two lion masks and cherubs, the crest repeated, the 'tasseled' edge carved with rosettes and with tasseled pendant drops, the sides centred by a basket of flowers, flanked by shields, on lyre shaped supports united by a turned stretcher with central grotesque mask collar, the terminals as stylised fish heads and scales, on rectangular blocks applied with dolphins on claw feet and (later) polished wood plinths (damages, some losses), mid-19th century 36½in. (92cm.) wide; 33½in. (85cm.) high; 60½in. (23.5cm.) deep
