A FRENCH MOTHER-OF PEARL AND GOLD MUSICAL SNUFF-BOX by Jean-Louis Leferre (fl. 1803-1822), marked, with the standard and excise marks for gold Paris 1809-1819, and the Parisian post-Revolutionary unofficial standard mark for 18-carat gold Rectangular box, the cover, four sides and base inset with mother-of-pearl panels, that on the lid carved with a basket of flowers encrusted with a small blank oval gold reserve in the centre, within a scrolling foliage border, the plain panels on sides and base engraved with chevron borders, the gold cagework mounts stamped with trailing foliage on a matted band and with narrow laurel and berry bands, slightly raised incorporated thumbpiece, the inside gold-lined, the front side wall with a lever, base with key hole, with associated key 2 15/16 in. (74 mm.) wide
