A French silk fan Circa 1775 Painted with two seated ladies and a young man and a child standing by trees in a landscape, bordered by painted panels of flowers and birds, with sequin borders with gilt decorated pierced ivory sticks, in a white painted and gilt decorated case the fan -- 10½in. (26.5cm.) the case -- 24in. (61cm.) wide, the reverse with paper label inscribed in ink, This antique fan, supposed to be original was the property of the "gorgeous" Lady Blessington, given to her by Louis Napoleon 3, Emperor of France. It had belonged to his mother Hortense. It was left to Mrs Newton Crossland - by Lady Blessington and by her to Edith Milner. I wish my cousin Alfred, Lord Scarbrough to have it - Edith Milner, Nov. 24th 1898 ... after Alfred to Serena Lumley, July 15, 1913
