Engraved underneath with contemporaneous initials M*S in Roman script. Fully marked underneath. Length – 18 cm / 7.05 inches Weight – 115 grams / 3.7 ozt Grimwade records this mark on a sugar caster of 1714, it has also been seen on a small porringer (caudle cup) of 1716. A possibility for this mark is Issac Cornafleau, a Huguenot silversmith who is recorded in various documents in 1707/1708, including in connection with the Harache family. A later mark in Britannia standard is recorded but is undated, given its position in the register it is between July 1722 to Dec 1724. In support of this mark being an earlier undated entry for Cornafleau are Grimwade’s notes that “[h]is work is rare, mostly of small domestic pieces, but of high quality”.
