A GEORGE III GOLD-MOUNTED HARDSTONE TABLE NCESSAIRE English, circa 1770/1780 Rectangular casket resting on four gold-mounted striated blue agate tondi, the cover, four sides and base set with mauve-underlaid semi-translucent grey striated agate panels framed by a pierced gold cagework embossed with foliate Rocaille , the cover centred by a pierced scrolling hinged gold handle attached by two gold rosettes, the inside of the lid fitted with a mirror protected by a hinged mauve silk and plush cover with gold pull-handle, the mauve plush-lined base of the casket fitted with steel scissors with gold handles, two gold-mounted steel sharpeners, a folding knife with steel blade and gold piqu pos inlaid composition handle, detachable gold pencil holder with oval engraved carnelian seal, a rectangular compartment with hinged cover flanked by a pair of rectangular glass inkwells with reeded circular gold caps, rose-cut diamond set push-piece 46 in.
