A George III silver shaped circular waiter by John Carter II, London 1771, engraved with an armorial beneath a crest, within a cast and pierced border with laurel swags, profile portrait medallions and urns, on three conforming bracket feet, 19.5cm (7 3/4in) diameter, 389g (12.5 oz) The arms of RYCROFT quartering NELSON and STONEHEWER, with a baronet's augmentation for the Revd. Richard Nelson Rycroft, Rector of Penshurst, Kent and the only surviving son of John Nelson of Calton. He assumed the name Rycroft by royal permission in 1758 before marrying Penelope, daughter of the Revd. Dr. Richard Stonehewer the following year and was created a baronet in 1784. When Sir Richard died in 1786 he was succeeded by his fourth son, the earlier three sons having died young. Condition report: Lower part of one foot missing
