A GEORGE V SILVER CUP AND COVER MARK OF OMAR RAMSDEN AND ALWYN CHARLES ELLISON CARR, LONDON, 1910 The bowl on a spreading foot with a strawberry leaf and 'pearl' band above a twisted wire motif, the cup with a Tudor rose and fleur-de-lys border, the cover with a finial cast as the Hyett crest on a helmet and with mantling, the cup chased with three coats-of-arms, the foot engraved with an inscription, marked near rim and on cover bezel, the base further engraved 'OMAR RAMSDEN ET ALWYN CARR ME FECERUNT MCMX' 17¾ in. (45 cm.) 51 oz. (1,581 gr.) The inscription reads ' PRESENTED TO F.A. HYETT BY MANY FRIENDS ON THE GLOUCESTERSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL IN GRATITUDE FOR HIS MANY SERVICES TO THE CAUSE OF EDUCATION ESPECIALLY IN THE YEAR 1910' The arms are those of Eton College, Trinity Hall, Cambridge and Hyett impaling Carpenter for Sir Francis Adams Hyett (1844-1941) and his wife Ellen Marie (d.1929), daughter of Charles Carpenter formerly of Moditonham, Cornwall, who he married in 1870. Francis Hyett of Painswick House, co. Gloucester was educated at Eton College and Trinity Hall and was called to the Bar of the Inner Temple in 1872. He was a prominent member of Gloucestershire society and served as Chairman of the Education Committee who presented the present cup and cover.
