A GEORGE VI SILVER CREAM-JUG AND SUGAR-BOWL AND A PAIR OF GEORGE III SILVER SUGAR-TONGS MARK OF J. PARKES AND CO., LONDON, 1937, THE TONGS LONDON, CIRCA 1770, MAKER'S MARK IM The sugar-bowl cylindrical, the cream-jug oval, each on a collet foot and bright-cut with flowers and scrolls, further engraved with two cartouches, one engraved with an initial 'W' below a Royal Duke's coronet, the other vacant, the base engraved with an inscription, the openwork tongs engraved with initials 'AP to WP', the cream-jug and sugar-bowl each marked near handle, the tongs marked inside ; with a Christmas card inscribed by Queen Mary 'For Little William Grannie Mary R 1944 Sugar Basin + Tongs Copy of Paul Lamerie ' The cream-jug 4¼ in. (10.8 cm.) high 15 oz. (465 gr.) The inscription on the cream-jug reads ' From H.M. Queen Mary Birthday 1943 '. The inscription on the sugar-bowl reads ' From H.M. Queen Mary Christmas 1944' . The initial is that of H.R.H. Prince William of Gloucester (1941-1972). (3)
