A Great War D.C.M. awarded to Acting Corporal J. B. Mann, 9th Battalion North Lancashire Regiment Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (25139 A. Cpl., 9/L.N. Lanc. R.) suspension repinned, some scratches to obverse and reverse, about very fine £550-650 Footnote D.C.M. London Gazette 16 August 1917. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During an attack, when his platoon officer was wounded, he took command and reorganised the platoon, later on taking on the duties of Co. Serjt.-Major when all the senior N.C.O’s. had become casualties. He was invaluable in establishing the outpost line, and in getting up rations and water.’ John B. Mann volunteered in August 1914, his home address being 11 Poplar Street, Leeds. Initially served with the Army Cyclist Corps. With the 9th Battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 26 September 1915. Participated in the Battles of Neuve Chapelle, St. Eloi, Hill 60 and Ypres and was twice wounded and was awarded the D.C.M. for his bravery and leadership. Transferred to Class ‘Z’ Reserve in January 1919. Was additionally awarded the 1914-15 Star trio of medals. With copied research.
