A Great War O.B.E. group of five awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel F. J. S. Lowry, Indian Staff Corps, late 29th Bombay Infantry The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Military) Officer’s 1st type breast badge, hallmarked London 1919; India General Service 1895-1902, 2 clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98 (Major F. J. S. Lowry 29th Bo: Infy.); 1914-15 (Major F. J. S. Lowry.); British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaves (Lt. Col. F. J. S. Lowry.) nearly extremely fine (5) £500-£600 Footnote O.B.E. (Military) London Gazette 1 January 1919. M.I.D. London Gazette 15 June 1916, 28 December 1917, and 31 December 1918. Frederick James Sharples Lowry was first commissioned, from Royal Military College, into the West Yorkshire Regiment on 1 May 1878. Transferred to Indian Staff Corps, 29th Bombay Infantry; 27 February 1882; Major, 1 May 1898. Served on N.W. Frontier of India, Zhob Valley, 1890; and Tirah 1897-98, Assistant Judge Advocate General, actions of the Sampagha and Arhangha Passes (Medal with 2 Clasps). Appointed Cantonment Magistrate, Hyderabad, in addition to Military duties, 16 July 1898. During the Great War he served in operations in France and Belgium, with 3rd Echelon B.E.F., Indian Staff Corps, from 10 June 1915 to 14 November 1918. Lieutenant-Colonel Lowrey died on 10 December 1925.
