A GROUP OF SEVENTEEN ORNAMENTS Meiji Period (Late 19th Century) A grocer with baskets of vegetables and a child by his side, with signature Eishin , slight old damage, 2.7/8in. (7.3cm.) high; a wheelwright carving a wheel and a child holding a plane in his hand, signed Munemasa , 3.5/8in. (9.2 cm.) wide; a stone-carver kneeling beside the upper part of a pagoda, his tools at his side, signed Seio , slight old wear 2.5/8in.( 6.7cm.) high; a clam-seller, signed Seiko , minute chips, 3in.(6.9cm.) high; a man suprised at finding a tanuki [racoon or badger] emerging from his back-pack, signed Seishi , 2.7/8in. (7.2cm.); a celestial maiden seated on a saddled elephant, one of her attendants seated on a shishi , another holding an unfolded scroll in her hand and a child playing with a fan beneath the large animal, the eyes inlaid in shell and horn, chips and age cracks, 6in.
