A HARDWOOD THRONE 19TH CENTURY The stepped back and side railings resting on a rectangular platform lacquered with a faux burlwood design, the central panel on the back railing with a large circular medallion carved with a writhing four-clawed dragon against a low-relief wan diaper ground, with a bat at each of the four corners of the panel, each of the side panels with a cusped oviform panel carved with a pair of dragons flanking a stylized fu character against a similar ground and with a corresponding design of bats, each of the side railings carved with a central cusped and curvilinear elongated rectangular panel with a pair of confronted dragons flanking a shou character the railings crested by openwork carvings of dragons amidst clouds, all supported on a narrow waist and molded apron and legs carved with dragons and clouds, the incurved legs terminating in claw-and-ball feet, resting on a low pedestal with molded and beaded edge; together with a hardwood footrest and a silk throne cushion 50 in. (127 cm.) high, 40 in. (101.6 cm.) wide, 31 in. (78.7 cm.) deep (2)
