A highly important set of seven thangkas of the Great Fifth Dalai Lama and his lineage Tibet, circa 1815 Superbly painted with the central thangka depicting the Great Fifth Dalai Lama seated on an elaborate throne and holding the amritsa vase, backed by a floral-and-dragon aureola bearing eight auspicious symbols, a low altar with multiple offerings in front and four figures identified by inscription above and flanked by three thangkas on each side; the first thangka to his right depicting Songtsen Gampo, the first monarch of Tibet; the second thangka to his right depicting Gendun Drup, the First Dalai Lama; the third thangka to his right depicting Sonam Gyatso, the Third Dalai Lama; and the Great Fifth flanked on the left first by lay master Domton Gyalwe Jungne, founder of the Kadam monastery; the second thangka to his left depicting the Second Dalai Lama, Gendun Gyatso; and the third thangka to his left depicitng the Fourth Dalai Lama, Yonten Gyatso; each figure identified with gold inscriptions by a fine hand, the verso of each thangka consecrated with handprints and with seals 27½ x 16¼ in.
