A Hizen Wakizashi Edo period (17th century), signed Hizen kuni ju Fujiwara Tadahiro and dated Hachigatsu kichijitsu (an auspicious day in the eighth month) Sugata [configuration]: hon-zukuri, iori-mune, chu-kissaki, torii-zori Kitae [forging pattern]: very close ko-itame with jinie Hamon [tempering pattern]: broad choji gunome in nioi and nie with a moist nioi-guchi and saka-ashi, kinsuji, yo, sunagashi and tobi-yaki Boshi [tip]: continuation of the hamon with a long turnback Nakago [tang]: ubu, iriyama-gata with kiri file marks and one hole Habaki [collar]: single, gold Nagasa [length from tip to beginning of tang]: 20¼in. (51.3cm.0 long Motohaba [width at start of tempered edge]: 1 1/8in. (2.9cm.) Sakihaba [width before tip]: 7/8in. (2.3cm.) In shirasaya [plain wood storage scabbard] inscribed and signed by Sato Kanzan (1907-1978) With a Tokubetsu hozon token (Sword especially worth of preserving) no. 146952 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword) attributing this sword to the first generation Tadahiro, dated 2001.12.25
