A Japanese Satsuma earthenware koro / censer Print Email Meiji era (1868 - 1912), with eight-character signature to cover, the rectangular domed pierced cover surmounted by a dog and a rock formation with flowers, the double-handled body with angled corners, one side with a concave niche containing a three dimensional figure of a woman holding a flower and standing on rocks, with blossoming branches painted on the wall behind her, the reverse side painted with a bird and flower sprays, raised on mask-headed paw feet, the whole polychrome-enameled and gilt, 16'' H x 10'' W x 5.5'' D, Provenance: Private Collection, San Marino, CA. Condition: Overall good condition. Scattered marks, scratches and rubbed wear commensurate with age. Small chips to foo dog, leaves and flowers on cover. Scattered minute chips to feet.
