A KIKUCHI SCHOOL TSUBA BY TWO ARTISTS AND THREE OTHERS Edo period (18th/19th century) A carved shakudo tsuba , the face with a shishi throwing its cub off a rock in a survival test, the reverse with peonies among rocks, signed on the reverse Efu no ju Yoshimasa and on the face Kikuchi Tsunesada with a kao ; a shakudo tsuba , tapering towards the edge and inlaid with two figures on the bank of a stream, one standing with a bundle of faggots on his head, the other sitting on the ground with a pipe in his hand, inlaid with copper, shibuichi, shakudo and two colours of gold, with signature Echizen no daijo Minamoto Nagasune with a kao , 6.55cm.; a copper tsuba with abstract punch marks and decorated in four reserves, with the four seasons represented by plum blossom, bamboo, mushrooms among fallen pine needles and snow on bamboo, Nara school, 18th century, 6.9cm.; and a mokko -shaped copper tanto tsuba representing the pleasures of the summer, with a fan, a cricket, an open book and a wind-bell, Nara school, 5.55cm.
