A Lacquer Writing Box ( suzuribako ) (20th century), box signed Ikko (Kiyose Ikko; 1901-1986) The rectangular writing box decorated on the stepped lid with pines and blossoming cherries by a river and the distant hills of Yoshino in gold and silver takamaki-e , kinji, kinpun , extensive kirikane and mura-nashiji clouds; the underside of the lid in gold and nashiji , silver and red lacquer and inlaid shell with partially opened folding fans, which are repeated in the lower box against a nashiji ground; fitted with a tray and inkstone and a silver water dropper cast in the form of a boat set in a silver and gilt saucer; rims silver 9 7/8 x 8¾ x 2in. (25.2 x 27.3 x 5cm.) With wood box signed on the underside of the lid Ikko saku (made by Ikko) and sealed Ikko
