A LARGE BRONZE RITUAL TRIPOD FOOD VESSEL, DING EARLY EASTERN ZHOU DYNASTY, EARLY SPRING AND AUTUMN PERIOD, 8TH CENTURY BC Raised on three hollow legs splayed at the bottom and with core-filled V-shaped open backs, each surmounted by a taotie mask centered by a barbed flange flanked by zigzag lines, the lower portion of the broad shallow bowl with a pattern of eyes centering two whorling angular scrolling arms that terminate in dragon heads, with a more simplified version of the pattern in a narrow band above, with a pair of bail handles cast on the outer side with dragons rising from the everted rim, with grey-green patina and malachite green encrustation 11 15/16 in. (30.4 cm.) high
