A LARGE FINELY CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
A LARGE FINELY CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795) The cover is exquisitely carved to depict a vase, in which is placed sprays of peony flowers. The flowers are supported on the flat surface of a rock that is emerged above turbulent waves below, and detailed with floating Daoist Miscellaneous Treasures, Anbaxian , below a dense ruyi -cloud representing the air. It is further detailed with a pair of descending dragons and below a Taichi symbol, all within a circular border of peony scrolls. The rounded sides has a total of ten bats interspersed among large peaches against a dense pattern of flowering blossoms and leaves. The pattern is repeated around the sides of the box and above the foot ring carved with a keyfret band. Underside and interiors are covered with a black lacquer. 15 3/8 in. (39 cm.) diam.

A LARGE FINELY CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795) The cover is exquisitely carved to depict a vase, in which is placed sprays of peony flowers.
