A Large Japanese imari vase, 19th Century the body of pear shaped form with ruffled rim, decorated with cartouches of flowering chrysanthemum, peony and cherry blossom within a fenced garden, and smaller panels of Buddhistic lions within a basket of peonies, surrounded by kiku flowerheads on an underglaze blue and iron-red karakusa ground -- 36½in. (92.8cm.) high.
