A LARGE SAFAVID BRASS AND BRONZE PROCESSIONAL STANDARD ( 'ALAM ) SAFAVID IRAN, ENGRAVED DATE OF AH 1118/1706-07 AD Rising from a tapering tubular brass shaft with floral lattice through a large spherical element with inscribed medallions and calligraphic lines, two dragons' heads with long necks symmetrically attached at each side, a flaring element above with scrolls and palmettes sustaining a pierced cube, each face with ya Muhammad cut out between floral scrolls, the inscribed cover rising to a smaller inscribed ovoid element tapering to the main drop-shaped panel with a large inscription on floral ground, with another but smaller drop-shaped panel perpendicularly attached to the axis around a rotating floral enamelled rounded element, with numerous dragon's heads fixed along the edges with tall flat panel with dragons' heads and upper pierced section, areas of restoration, minor cracks, on wooden stand 137 1/8in. (349cm.) high
