A LOUIS XV JEWELLED LACQUER AND GOLD CARNET-DE-BAL BY JACQUES-MARCELIN MARCAULT, MARKED, PARIS, 1770/1771, WITH THE CHARGE AND DISCHARGE MARKS OF JULIEN ALATERRE Rectangular étui-à-tablettes , lacquered in translucent red on an engine-turned scalework ground, the obverse inscribed with " Souvenir " in rose-cut diamonds on the cover and inset with an oval miniature of a young lady in blue dress with white lace-border, black choker, powdered upswept hair, in a ribbon-twist gold frame with diamond-set ribbon-tie surmount, the reverse of the cover applied with trophies in three-colour gold and diamonds, the base inset with an oval medallion containing a plaited hair panel with gold initials "CA", the gold mounts of the edges pierced and chased with c-scrolls, diamond-set pushpiece 88mm.
