A LOUIS XVI-STYLE JEWELLED AND ENAMELLED GOLD NOTEBOOK possibly Swiss or German Rectangular book-binding, both hinged sides set with slightly raised enamel plaques painted with scènes champêtres of young peasants in riverside landscapes within reeded gold mounts, the obverse and reverse applied with silver-mounted rose-cut diamond inscription SOUVENIR D'AMITIÉ on top and with rose-cut diamond set trophies of Love on the bottom, the matted gold cagework mounts and spine stamped with a gold ribbon twisted with translucent green enamelled foliage, the gold clasp loops fixed by insertion of a gold pencil holder with jewelled top; the insides of the book cover painted in lacquer with two Rococo-style scenes of Promenades dans le parc , inside a red leather bound booklet painted with a profile portrait of King Louis XVI in an oval reserve surmounted by the Royal French crown and surrounded by three fleurs-de-lys and a laurel wreath, the reverse with an identically framed oval reserve painted with three French Royal lilies, inside a tablet and note-paper 3.13/16 in. (96 mm.) high
