A MALTESE SILVER OIL LAMP, LAMPIER
MARK OF SIMEONE LEBRUN, OAKES PERIOD, CIRCA 1810/1820, ALSO MARKED WITH A SMALL INCUSE" T", PERHAPS A WORKMAN'S MARK
A MALTESE SILVER OIL LAMP, LAMPIER MARK OF SIMEONE LEBRUN, OAKES PERIOD, CIRCA 1810/1820, ALSO MARKED WITH A SMALL INCUSE" T", PERHAPS A WORKMAN'S MARK The reservoir with domed top and three lights above an urn-shaped section engraved with foliated initials CB and with a small heart-shaped winder to adjust lamp extending from one side, two of the original three fittings dependent from chains, a snuffer of scissor type and a bell-shaped extinguisher, the narrow stem descending to a second urn-shaped section above the sunken circular foot, the latter chased around with shell motifs within scrolls and additional foliate motifs, the adjustable oval reflector with gadroon border, chased with a version of Grand Master Vilhena's arms within a wreath probably at a later date for the tourist trade, the top with oval grip 22 in. high (56 cm.) 37 oz. (1147 gm.)
