(Silver & Objects of Vertu, 25th March 2020) A matched George II / George III sterling silver meat dish and cover, the base London 1748 by Charles Fredrick Kandler (reg. 10 Sep 1735) A matched George II / George III sterling silver meat dish and cover, the base London 1748 by Charles Fredrick Kandler (reg. 10 Sep 1735) of shaped oval form with gadrooned rim, the cover, London 1791 by John Wakelin & William Taylor (reg. 25th Sep 1776), of conforming shaped oval form with gadrooned edges, the rising central section surmounted by a reeded loop handle with acanthus terminals. Also later fitted with a removable Victorian mazarine (for use with fish), pierced with twin loop handles, Sheffield 1878 by Fenton Brothers. The meat dish engraved underneath with scratch weight 39=13, the cover with No 5, 42=15, the mazarine initialled E.H.C and 1879 in Gothic script. Meat dish and mazarine fully marked, the dome with part marks. (3) Length – 40 cm / 15.75 inches Weight – 2905 grams / 93.4 ozt
