A MEIJI PERIOD IVORY NETSUKE OF FUKUROKUJU AND BOYS, SIGNED ICHIGYOKU Catalog Number: AB0319-0223 Ivory netsuke Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) A lively composition with Fukurokuju, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, kneeling on the ground and leaning forwards with his characteristic elongated head, to which one of the three boys is holding on. A second boy is standing beside him while the third is in front of Fukurokuju. Himotoshi on the underside, signed Ichigyoku (literally “a pearl”) on a hyotan, a symbol of immortality.
