A PAIR OF CINNABAR LACQUER WALL VASES QING DYNASTY, QIANLONG PERIOD each with a flattened back, the ovoid body rising from a short foot to a flared neck, the body deftly carved in varying levels of relief with a rectangular panel enclosing figural scenes, one depicting an attendant hauling a horse towards two conversing scholars amongst a fenced garden, the other with two foreigners hunting in a landscape, all framed by ruyi lappets above and foliate strapwork below, the neck with floral sprays between key-fret bands and the foot encircled by scattered florets, set on the shoulders with a pair of dragon handles in gilt, similarly decorated with three mythical beasts in gilt around the base, the reverse lacquered in black 14.8 cm, 5 7/8 in.
