Similar subject is also found on bamboo, wood and ivory carvings; compare the design of the present lot to the carved chenxiangmu 'Jiao Sui' cup offered in this sale, lot 144. 二壺形製裝飾類同，取陳年椰殼去頭尾，大孔作底，小孔作口，內裡包錫，外壁減地浮雕山石松竹，其間再雕一高士席地而坐，前有一童子持壺侍酒，另一側雕一高士踞床半躺，伸手欲接身前童子遞來酒杯，壺口沿下雕如意雲頭一周，前後安錫流鋬，鋬下浮雕一「壽」字。 此壺所雕人物或為東晉竹林七賢，或為唐代飲中八仙之二。東晉竹林七賢以詩酒音樂、狂放不羈為名，其中以劉伶最為詩酒，《晉書·列傳十九·劉伶》記載「天生劉伶，以酒為名。」杜甫曾作《飲中八仙歌》贊詠長安城中以酒為名之八位高士，分別是李白、賀知章、李適之、李璡、崔宗之、蘇晉、張旭、焦遂。此二壺畫面中因有竹林，較為可能為竹林七賢中人物。 竹木牙雕工匠往往運用不同材質進行創作，雕刻風格及圖樣多源自相似母本。如本對壺所雕山石竹木風格與本場另一拍品144沉香木雕焦遂杯極為相似。
