A PAIR OF EARLY FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS BY DURS EGG LONDON
CIRCA 1777-1780
A PAIR OF EARLY FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS BY DURS EGG LONDON CIRCA 1777-1780 With signed rebrowned twist octagonal sighted barrels, lightly swamped muzzles, gold-lined vents, the breech tangs engraved with flowers and small trophies, signed stepped bevelled locks engraved with flowers at the rear, rollers, and no provision for safety-catches (one cock replaced), figured walnut full stocks each formed with a swell behind the ramrod-pipe (one cracked between this point and the trigger-guard finial), rounded butts cut and punched with characteristic pineapple chequering, engraved iron mounts including butt-caps, the trigger-guards with acorn finial, horn fore-end caps, and later ramrods: in a modern lined and fitted oak case with accessories including a copper three-way percussion flask 15in (38.1cm)
